ADAM WON AFTERALL

Thursday, June 25, 2009

We take all kind of pills to give us all kind of thrills
But the thrill we've never known
Is the thrill that'll get you when you get your picture
On the cover of the Rolling Stone

Rolling Stone
Wanna see my picture on the cover
Rolling Stone
Wanna buy five copies for my mother
Rolling Stone
Wanna see my smilin' face

AI FINALE THIS WEEK!

Monday, May 18, 2009

Oh, Gokey. We hardly knew ye.

Gokey.

I'm definitely rooting for Adam. It should be an interesting finale.

American Idol Finale
FOX
Tuesday, 8pm.

NEW STUFF

Thursday, April 23, 2009

How are ya?

There's good news and bad news. I'll start with the bad news. Anoop was eliminated last night. I can't say much more about it without getting emotional...

The good news is I have picked a new favorite - I'm now rooting for Danny Gokey. Sure, I could have taken the easy road and picked Adam but I like a good underdog. Paula thinks Gokey has a sexy voice and I do, too. Plus, I like saying Gokey.

Gokey.

The other good news is that I added a new header and a new feature to this blog. The new feature is a poll on the right side. Please vote! The topics for the polls will be somewhat NYC-related so I apologize to our readers in Dubai for not including them.

I hope the new header looks good on everyone's computer. If it doesn't please let me know!

IN REVIEW

Tuesday, April 7, 2009

So much to say.

First - Gokey didn't do Journey but he was still pretty great.

Second - Dude. Adam is good. Tears for Fears? Awesome!

Third (and most importantly) - Anoop Dogg is BACK! He took one of my top five least favorite songs and made me love it. Also, his baby pictures were almost too cute to handle, too cold to hold. Also, also, he apologized for his behavior last week. I knew that wasn't the real him! Ok. You can shoot me now.

SOMEONE STOP ME

Before I let this blog turn into a clone of some teenybopper's American Idol fansite, I wish to say that I regret posting so much about AI but regrettably cannot help myself. By the way, only cool people refer to American Idol as AI.

Anyhoozers, tonight's episode's theme is "Songs from the year you were born". I'm really hoping for some greatness here. Especially from Gokey. You know how they have the contestants do those stupid song and dance things on elimination nights? Normally these things are a complete and utter waste of time but last week there was an instance of brilliance. The song was "Don't Stop Believing" by Journey and when it came time for Gokey's solo phrase he NAILED IT. Watch your back, Arnel Pineda. Gokey and Journey songs are a match made in heaven.

Wikipedia kindly tells me that Gokey was born in 1980 making "Any Way You Want It" (off Journey's 1980 release Departure) a golden opportunity. You know Randy would like it. He is a former Journey member, after all.

Born to Run, Horses, Blood on the Tracks, Physical Graffiti, Wish you Were Here, A Night at the Opera and The Basement Tapes all came out in the year I was born. I would have a lot to choose from!

I'M CHANGING MY TUNE

Wednesday, April 1, 2009

Was it me or was Anoop a little full of himself last night? His performance of "Caught Up" was a little sneery and uninspired. Simon said it gave him a headache.

Don't cross him, don't boss him.

I didn't vote for Anoop for the first time this season. I voted for Scott. Scott is the new Anoop.

The Tender Dogg was really good last night, too.

If Megan doesn't get the boot this week I'll be surprised.

I NEED AN UPDATE

Thursday, March 26, 2009

Anyone see Idol last night? I was doing some vocal coaching for a very promising new girl group and had to miss it...

IF THEY MATED

Wednesday, March 18, 2009

I came to the conclusion last night that Anoop Desai is the perfect combination of Kal Penn and Michael Cera. This probably explains why I like him so much. Harold and Kumar and Superbad are both pretty high up there on my list of favorite movies.

I like Juno, too. And, House. Anyhooz... Anoop kicked ass last night. I might have to buy this:

As for the rest of the top 11 - I like the tender dogg (Kris). He was good. Adam's Ring of Fire display was creepy and made me uncomfortable but I think that was what he was going for so, Congrats, Adam. You pulled it off. Your voice is incredible. Randy Travis seemed utterly stumped by it, though. Poor Megan was sick but more than made up for it in boobs. I voted for Anoop but I thought about voting for Scott. I really want him to stick around. I think Alexis should be eliminated, or maybe Michael Sarver.

AMERICAN IDOL

Tuesday, February 17, 2009

I voted for Noop Dog. Got through on the first try.

AI

Wednesday, January 14, 2009

I have to admit that as excited as I was in writing, I could only sit through 20 minutes of AI on Tuesday night before vigorously changing the channel.

Wednesday I tried harder (read: drank more wine) and was able to get through it. Perhaps the little nugget that Jason Castro had a brother competing in the episode kept me interested. No dreads this time. Pink hair, in fact, but still cute and the boy can sing! He was "goodish" in Simon's opinion but the new judge got pretty hot and bothered. Woman after my own heart!

I'm now officially hooked.

FINALLY

Tuesday, January 13, 2009

American Idol (or, as I call it - AI because I'm cool) starts it's EIGHTH season tonight! It seems like just yesterday that Kelly Clarkson and that guy with the hair were duking it out in the first season. Look how far we've come!

I'm hoping there will be a new smokin' hot guy with dreads this season. I miss the old one:

I apologize in advance for too many AI posts. I just can't help myself.

AMERICAN IDOL FINALE!

Thursday, May 22, 2008

David Cook won!

david cook

Now you don't have to read any more about American Idol on this blog ever again. Until February when it starts all over again.

It should have been Jason Castro...

DO I KNOW HOW TO PICK THEM OR WHAT?

Tuesday, May 6, 2008

Jason Castro is in the FINAL FOUR. Tonight's theme is "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame". It should be good!

GO JASON!

TWO WORDS

Wednesday, April 9, 2008

JASON CASTRO FOREVER!

Even Bel Air bass player Matt is a fan after that performance. I believe his words were "Jason is the best one - he should win. He's the only one that I can live in this world with"

BROOKE WHITE GO AWAY

Tuesday, April 8, 2008

Long version:
I haven't posted about AI (I'm cool) lately because I didn't see it at all last week (I know!). Last Tuesday Bel Air and friends went out to dinner at a new restaurant that we all highly recommend. It's called Roberta's and it's a pizza place with a geniune pizza oven straight from Italy. The food is amazing and it's BYO so our check came to such a ridiculous amount that I think we tipped 50% or something because anything less would have been obscenely cheap. The other cool thing about Roberta's is that it's co-owned by our friend Brandon Hoy. Brandon was in a band called Alabama Black Snake that BUBD played with a lot and eventually shared a practice space with. He's a super nice guy and it's great to see his new venture doing so well. The NY Times gave Roberta's a great review as you can see in the link above.

Short version:
I didn't see idol last week because I was eating lots of pizza and drinking lots of wine.

I'm really hoping that Brooke White gets the boot this week. I can't take her anymore. As usual, the girls at Go Fug Yourself hit the nail on the head: She needs to stop talking so much.

IDOL IS GETTING WEIRD

Thursday, March 27, 2008

chik
Peace Out, Chikezie.

Jeff's favorite contestant Chikezie was eliminated last night. Wyatt liked him a lot for a while there too but has since switched his allegiance to Syesha. I don't think too many people were surprised that he was eliminated, though. What was weird was that Jason Castro was in the bottom three! I really liked his bilingual cover of Der Stingaling's Fragile. It was good! And, he's so goofy and cute that you can't not love him. Wyatt even likes him - although, he did make fun of his pants on Tuesday saying that if you squinted it looked like he wasn't wearing any. Ha!

pants

Other weirdness:
- Carly Smithson blamed her uncomfortableness during her performance this week on the fact that she was wearing Spanx. Is she pulling an Ashley Simpson? Carly went on to deny pregnancy rumors.
- David Archuleta was born in 1990.

HAVE I BECOME A CLICHE?

Tuesday, March 18, 2008

Everyday I read a number of blogs: food blogs, music blogs, fashion blogs, apartment blogs. It was in one of the apartment blogs that I found an entry that links to a NYT article about a school teacher who won a housing lottery and was able to purchase a studio apartment on the upper east side for $14,000. Did I mention I love a run-on sentence? Here's the article

I'm happy for the guy and for me because I have a cheap apartment on the upper WEST side (so much better) of Manhattan that I've said on several occasions I won't give up until I get married. Then I read the comments. Specifically, this one:

"I wonder if this guy will become a typical commitment phobic New Yorker. Afraid that if he finds someone special he will have to give up his great deal and pay real rent/mortgage."

As I'm getting close to being a "real" New Yorker (10+ years in the city), I now fear I'm a cliche. I have no fear of commitment but I do fear life after my apartment. It's just so cute! And, cheap!

Other newsers - American Idol is on tonight. JASON CASTRO 4EVA! Wyatt and Jeff are big Chikezie fans. We'll see who prevails. Is there really any competition, though??

LOOK WHAT I FOUND!

Wednesday, March 5, 2008

Looks like someone beat me to the punch and put up a Jason Castro fan site!

Jason Castro Online!

I found it while looking for video of his performance from last night's show which I didn't get to see because, duh, I have a life. Um..yeah.

Below is his masterful rendition of "Hallelujah". And, like Randy, I must give my dog props for choosing this song, you feelin' me? It's a great song and not easy to do well. Check it out!

HOW DID THAT HAPPEN?

Wednesday, February 20, 2008

Over the weekend Bel Air hung out with Jamie MacKenzie and Erich Sturm, our friends and artistic power couple. Jamie took some pics of us and Erich has been working on the cover art for our CD. We were all anxious to see what he had come up with. Turns out he had come up with was Wilco's Sky Blue Sky cover, only way better.

wilco-sky-blue-sky

Just to clarify - Erich had never seen this cover. He doesn't even listen to Wilco. Like, ever. It's just totally bizarre. I really liked it, too. We all did. It would have been perfect! But it was SO similar. Uncannily similar. Stupid Wilco. Jeez. They should hire Erich for their next album cover. He's better than their guy.

In otherhoozer newzers - Allie is smitten with this American Idol hottie:
