MYSPACE DEMOS #6

This is a little thing that Drew, Wyatt and I came up with to play in between songs at Breakup Breakdown shows. We needed something to play so that Jeff could tune and, I think, James could put on the acoustic guitar? Anyway - we didn't want dead air so we played this...once. At the last BUBD show. So, it's in keeping with my original mission to put up things that will never see the light of day otherwise. It was recorded on my iRiver so it's a little blown out but you can get the idea.

MYSPACE DEMOS #5

Last week Jeff, Wyatt and I got together to demo out some of our new songs. This is one of those demos - sort of. I didn't like the version of it that I recorded that night so I recorded it again on my iRiver. It's called "Say You Knew Me When" and I'm including it here because it probably won't end up being a Bel Air song. It's a little on the too-personal side for a band song. The first time I played it for Jeff he said that it sounded like a "crazy person song" and I will never let him live it down!! NEVER! The lyrics are, in places, a bit trite but, what can I say? I had a some pretty stereotypical teenage years. Imagine this three chord wonder with some melodic lines over the instrumental parts. I was trying to go for a low-key Neutral Milk Hotel thing here.

MYSPACE DEMOS #4

Here's what Jeff says about his demo:

"I swear to god i woke up with this song in my head one day. This is a re-recording I did on a crappy little digi 4track. You can hear Mr. Grieves' collar rattling, so I tried to mask it with a shaker. I thought it was very sneaky, turns out to just sound silly. Think I was listening to a lot of Leonard Cohen last fall, certainly sounds like I was."

MYSPACE DEMOS #3

I promised something more light-hearted this time. So, here ya go. This is what happens when Wyatt and I have time to kill. It's so silly that Wyatt actually laughs through his vocal part. Speaking of, you kind of have to pump up the volume to really grasp the genius of his vocals. We didn't get this mastered or anything if you know what I mean.

The name of the song is Gary because, well, just because it is. We called it Allie's Lullaby long enough to name the mp3 file that but I think you'll agree that Gary is better.

MYSPACE DEMOS #2

I live in a two bedroom apartment in an old building. A while ago I found myself without a roommate for about a month. The empty second bedroom was reverb gold. I went in there one day and recorded myself singing a couple covers just because the reverb was so good. This edition of Myspace Demos is one of those. It was recorded on my iRiver's internal mic which is about the size of a pinhead. So, the quality is kinda crap. The song is Townes Van Zandt's Highway Kind. It's sad but describing it that way after telling you its a Townes song is a bit redundant. Enjoy! The next demo will be a little more light-hearted, I promise.

NEW FEATURE - MYSPACE DEMO #1

I thought it would be kind of cool to use our shiny new myspace page to post some demos and song ideas so I'll be posting a new one every couple weeks.

The first installment is a song called Count the Meds. I recorded it using my Creative Zen Vision M, a device I've taken to calling my iRiver because when I first got it everyone asked me if it was an iRiver and saying "Yes" was much easier than saying "No, it's a Creative Zen Vision M". I've been known to secretly pull it out while drunk and in the company of loud drunk people (Jeff) and record stupid conversations. It's fun. The last time I remember doing this is when Jeff and I went to the Abbey Pub with Ben Krieger. I think I captured about 20 minutes straight of Ben and Jeff geeking out on music. They had no idea they were being recorded. It's priceless.

Back to business - I recorded this demo about a year ago sitting on my bed using the iRiver's internal mic. Needless to say, the quality is not good. I just wanted to get the song down. The quality probably won't be good on any of these demo things but that's kind of the point. The song itself is a collaborative effort from me and my dad. He wrote the lyrics, I wrote the music. It bears saying that the lyrics were written after many listens to A Ghost is Born.
